Is the Sony mts/mp4 file compatible with PE12 (Premiere Elements 12)?

Summary: Having problems importing Sony mts/mp4 file to Premiere Elements 12? This article will show the best way to convert them to PE12 native format for smooth editing work.

Adobe Premiere Elements 12 provides a refined and uncluttered video editing interface with the integrated Organizer supporting more efficient editing. But, occassionally, we often get feedback from users to complain that some kind of MTS/MP4 clips failed to import to Adobe Premiere Elements 12 like this:

I have a CX330/B camera. When I USB connect it to my MAC and run Adobe Premiere Elements 12 to download the video files, the software says there is no recognizable device. It will, however, recognize the jpeg photos, but not the 60p/24p MTS and MP4 video.

To tackle this problem, here are two solutions:

Solution 1: Try MPEG Streamclip to encode Sony CX330/B file to Adobe Premiere Elements 12

Perhaps you can convert the .mts/.mp4 files to .mov or something using free software like Handbrake or MPEG Streamclip, however, you may still have new codec problem or no audio issue when editing 60p/24p files, it still lags and it's annoying to import into your Premiere Elements 12 program.

Solution 2: Try HD Video Converter for Mac to convert Sony footage compatible with PE12

You can render a 3rd party developed software - Pavtube HD Video Converter for Mac to convert Sony  mts/mp4 to Premiere Elements 12 native format for editing. It is an easy-to-use yet professional.

Besides that, you can also transcode other H.264 files from Canon, Panasoic, Nikon, GoPro Hero to more compatible video to Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Elements, iMovie, FCE, Adobe Premiere Pro , Avid and more NLE programs highly compatible formats for editing.
